When it comes to eye creams, there are two distinct groups of opinions. One that doesn’t believe in them and one who swears by them. I rarely mention eye creams… sometimes I actually forget this step especially evening routines when I don’t see a lot of benefits in using one. In the case of morning routines when I need to prep my face for makeup, I use an eye cream to do certain things for me such as reducing the look of dark circles, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles for easier concealer application. Those are my typical requirements that my normal skincare products might not be providing. So, where I stand with eye cream is a little confusing, to say the least. Now that’s out of the way, let’s look at this Sunday Riley Auto Correct eye product that came part of Caroline Hiron’s Spring Kit.

What is it?

An eye cream designed to address various eye area concerns.

What it does

An eye cream that instantly delivers a lifted and depuffed look to the eye area while rapidly reducing the appearance of dark circles and fine lines.

Now, let’s take a look at the key ingredients and see how they all work together.

  • Caffeine: Reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, energises tired-looking eyes.
  • Brazilian Ginseng Root Extract: Diminishes the appearance of eye contour puffiness
  • Horse Chesnut Extract: Provides a lifted look to the eye area, smoothing the appearance of crow’s feet
  • Acmella Oleracea Extract: Instantly smooths the look of expression lines around the eye area
  • Watermelon Rind Extract: Provides hydration and improves the skin moisture barrier.
  • Lutein: Provides a radiant glow to the fragile skin around the eye

This product is Natural, Certified Cruelty-Free, Sulfate-Free, Paraben-Free and Fragrance-Free.

Packaging

This comes in a very weighty glass bottle with a pump. Yay! The glass is recyclable. The lid and pump top are plastic.

I have to say, the size of the bottle is a little deceiving, you’d think there’s more product than 15ml/0.5 fl.oz.

Colour, Texture & Scent

This eye cream has a smooth, creamy, light texture which absorbs quickly and does not feel sticky or too heavy. However, it stays feeling emollient on the skin like it never feels totally dry to the touch. The milky beige texture has a pearlescent finish which I believe comes from mica to give the brightening effect. It reminds me of highlighting drop.

As far as the scent goes, it’s a strange one. You are likely not going to smell anything, however if you sniff it hard enough then there’s a bit of damp cloth smell. Whatever the smell is, I can only assume it’s from a combination of all the different seed, fruit and flower extracts as this is a fragrance-free product.

How to use it

Apply 1-2 pumps morning and evening, and throughout the day as needed. Using your ring and middle fingers, lightly tap into the skin around the eye area.

Sunday Riley instruction

After cleansing and toning, I’d apply half a pump which is more than enough, 1-2 pumps will be enough for the whole face! I focus on the under-eye areas for the dark circles and lines concerns, then take any residue on my fingers to the brow bones for that lifted feeling. I occasionally pat a bit on my lids but since I don’t really suffer from puffiness on my lids, I don’t bother with that. I then carry on with the rest of my routine. I only use this in the mornings.

Final thoughts

I am in two minds about this eye cream. One of the key features about this eye cream is to diminish the puffiness which I rarely suffer from, so I really can’t comment on that. As for the dark circles which are almost there on a permanent basis either hereditary or constant lack of sleep, I know no eye cream can get rid of that except with concealer to camouflage. With that said, I could see some brightening effect upon application which is most likely helped by the mica, it’s not too much that it hangs around. However, the brightening effect doesn’t warrant to omit the use of concealer though. While it provides a hydrating and smooth canvas for the concealer application, perhaps I have oily skin type I find the eye cream doesn’t seem to completely dry to the touch. It just stays emollient longer than I wanted, I definitely need to set the concealer with powder to avoid creasing. If you have dry skin though, I think this is a good one to use.

What I’ll say though, this eye cream definitely gives me that quick pick me up feeling in the morning. As soon as I apply this, my eyes look more awake with a slight tightening feel and less like I just got out of bed.

Overall, it works if you are looking for instant gratification. The benefits are temporary, as soon as you stop using this, I don’t know if the results are going to be there.
