Remember when I reviewed the Emma Hardie’s Moringa Cleansing Balm and I already talked about how I’m not always a fan of using a balm because I’m quite fussy with the texture and most importantly it needs to actually cleanse. Although nothing in my mind beats the Moringa Cleansing Balm, that’s not always a repurchase right away, sometimes I just like the convenience of those balm-to-oil type in a tube or pump. However, none has come close to the original balm in a jar experience. Until now.

A few weeks ago, this Watermelon Melting Balm was kindly sent to me to try and I’ve been using it since. It’s a 2020 launch and this does not disappoint.

What is it?

Hydrating Cleansing Balm

What it does

This cleanser removes impurities and helps to improve skin tone while leaving skin looking replenished, moisturised and brighter with these key ingredients:

Now, let’s dive deeper into the ingredients list and see how they all work together.

  • Watermelon and hemp seed oils: Concentrated in antioxidants, fatty acids, vitamin A and vitamin E, this cleansing balm deeply conditions skin leaving it bright, glowing and healthy
  • Bisabolol: A natural, powerful remedy for very sensitive and easily inflamed or irritated skin while addressing common concerns like premature aging, lack of moisture, sebum oxidation, sensitivity and skin discolouration.

This product is free from phthalate, SLS&SLES, silicone, paraben, fragrance, colourant, denatured alcohol and mineral oil.. This is a vegan-friendly product and has not been tested on animals.

Who’s it for

Suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin. I think anyone with dry and dehydrated skin would benefit from this the most while those with oily and acne-prone skin should sample this first.

This comes in a very handy squeeze tube.

Colour, Texture & Scent

This balm is slightly golden in colour, like cooking oil. The texture is quite solid but it melts in my hands very easily. Since the formula does not contain water and therefore the texture can change in different temperatures. As for the scent, there’s a very faint watermelon scent, not sweet watermelon as you might expect from typical watermelon products but closer to watermelon skin scent, so it’s not sweet but fresh, regardless it’s barely noticeable.

How to use it

Apply onto dry skin with dry hands and massage to dissolve makeup and dirt. Add warm water to emulsify and lather, and continue to massage for 1 minute. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. May also be removed with a soft, damp cloth. Can be used in the AM and/or PM.

Indeed Labs instruction

I’ve been using this mainly as first cleanse, but have tried this as a morning cleanse as well which I find it might be too rich for my skin type. As first cleanse to remove makeup and sunscreen though, this product is amazing! There’s no need to do any excessive warming the product into my palms or anything like that, this melts into my hands almost right away once I dispense it. I usually use about a pea-sized amount and this is enough to go over the entire face including eye makeup. I haven’t experienced any stinging or irritation around my eyes. I massage my face with it for about 1 minute and then remove it with a warm damp cloth. I’ve tried adding warm water, emulsify and then rinse. This method also works well though it’s not my preferred option. I find the emulsification to be moderate, a light milky consistency. When this is rinsed with water, this doesn’t leave a strong film residue. It does feel like you’ve just applied a face oil.

Either method, makeup is removed very well without any traces left. While my skin feels cleansed and moisturised at the same time, I do follow up with another cleanser.

Final thoughts

In a nutshell, I really enjoy this cleanser as my skin is dehydrated and prone to being flaky at times, this leaves my skin feels smooth, supple and hydrated. What makes this cleansing balm stand out for me is the packaging, this is basically the type of balm you get from a jar packaged into a tube. While I’m ok with light moisturiser in a jar because there’s very little force required to scoop the product out. However, when it comes to more solid balm texture, I tend to use a spatula instead of digging my finger in. So having a balm in a squeeze tube format really is a bonus! It’s much more hygienic and convenient.

How does this compare with other balm-to-oil cleansers in a tube on the market? Well, by comparison, they are closer to a very thick gel than the balm you get from a jar which the Indeed Labs one is. For me, this one feels almost like Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm, the texture and how it melts into the skin as well as the feeling on the skin afterwards, but without the scent. So, if you’ve tried EH one and not keen on the scent but like everything else, then I’d recommend you to give this a try. Not to mention, the price point for this is very good too!
