About a week ago I reviewed the cult favourite ultra repair cream intense hydration which is my no.1 favourite in the range, today I wanted to talk about the mask in the same range. This one comes a very close second for me. I’ve repurchased this mask a couple of times already so you know I like it a lot. My skin just seems to enjoy products with colloidal oatmeal which is the key ingredient in the Ultra Repair range. Let’s take a look at the details.

What is it?

A nourishing oatmeal mask.

What it does

Helps to calm, deeply rehydrate and moisturise rough skin with these key ingredients:

  • Colloidal Oatmeal and Avena Sativa Oat Bran: This blend helps calm and soothe dry or distressed skin, they contain antioxidants and skin-protecting properties with their barrier repairing omega-3 and 6 fatty acids.
  • Shea Butter: An emollient rich in vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids regenerates, moisturises and soothes the skin
  • Sea Buckthorn: A botanical extract rich in antioxidants, helps calm and condition skin.
  • FAB Antioxidant Booster: Helps to tackle environmental aggressors with Licorice Root, Feverfew and White Tea extracts.
  • Skin-soothing ingredients: Colloidal Oatmeal, Lactobacillus Ferment, Bisabolol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract, Avena Sativa Kernel Extract, Zingiber Officinale Root Extract.

Who’s it for

Good for all skin types but those with dry, damaged, distressed or sensitive skin types will benefit the most.

Everything else

Packaging

A very convenient plastic squeeze tube.

Colour, Texture & Scent

This mask is quite rich in texture, reminds me of breakfast yoghurt but it’s very easily spreadable. It’s slightly off-white in colour and you’ll find some bits of crushed oat kernel extracts. They don’t feel scratchy at all, they feel like boiled oats, soft to touch. There isn’t a lot in the product, quite sparse actually, so I can’t be sure if these extracts do anything or just for visual and textural effect. This absorbs into the skin very well after 10mins or so, but it’ll leave a film if you don’t remove it and the extracts eventually dry and fall off. There is a slight oat scent but it’s barely noticeable.

How to use it

Apply a generous layer over cleansed face. Wait 10 minutes and rinse off.

First Aid Beauty instruction

I like using this mask in early evenings after cleansing so I can leave it on as long as possible. I then remove with a damp washcloth and continue with my usual skincare routine.

My thoughts and experience

My skin gets very sensitive with dry and red patches, sometimes a bit flaky and sore. A few sessions with this gentle, creamy mask calmed down the soreness, reduced the redness and helped my skin feel soft and totally soothed. It’s very gentle and it hasn’t caused any clogged pores or breakouts on my oily acne-prone skin. While some soothing masks can be worn overnight, I don’t think this one can because it never completely absorbs and the oat extracts dry and come off so you might get a messy pillow. This mask is very comparable to REN Evercalm™ Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask and if you prefer to have the option of overnight wear then that’s what I’d recommend, other than that I personally use both interchangeably and they share similar results.

Would I repurchase? For sure. This Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask is effective and at a good affordable price point.
