Review: Elemis Nourishing Omega-Rich Cleansing Oil

Cleansing balm and cleansing oil are pretty much the same. It’s only been a couple of days since I last reviewed Emma Hardie’s cleansing balm. But I thought why not carrying on with the cleansing routine and review another product that I’ve been using for quite some time.

Elemis Nourishing Omega-Rich Cleansing Oil isn’t the first cleansing product I purchased from Elemis. Over the years, I’ve used a number of their face wash and I was happy with them, so when I was looking for a new cleansing oil after Shu Uemura — the OG of cleansing oils slowly exiting the UK market and then tried out a couple of other brands, I turned to Elemis.

What is it?

Skin conditioning cleansing oil

What it does

This Cleansing Oil has been formulated to ensure it maintains the skin’s delicate acid mantle at its optimum pH of 4.5 – 5.5. Maintaining this optimum level ensures that the beneficial microflora on the skin is kept in balance to keep skin healthy.

Blended with over 90% natural oils, here are the key ingredients:

  • Winter Rose Oil: Rich in Omega-9 with nurturing and calming
  • Chia Seed Oil: Great source of vitamin B3 and zinc. It can help your skin fight irritation, dehydration, and even pores congestion.
  • Pomegranate Extract: Nutrient-rich containing betulinic acid, ellagic acid, gallic acid, malic acid, ursolic acid, and polyphenols. This provides the benefits of antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory.

This product is formulated without Parabens, SLS, SLES, DES, Artificial Colouring and Mineral Oil. This is a vegetarian-friendly and cruelty-free product.

Full Ingredients list

Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Polysorbate 85, Sorbitan Oleate, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Limonene, Tocopherol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Salvia Hispanica (Chia) Seed Oil, Camellia Japonica (Rose of Winter) Seed Oil, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Geraniol, Fragrance (Parfum), Citral, Linalool, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Pogostemon Cablin (Patchouli) Leaf Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit Extract, Ascorbic Acid

As you can see, there are a few essential oils and fragrance, so if you are sensitive to these ingredients then be careful.

Who’s it for

Suitable for all skin types. I think anyone with dry and dehydrated skin would benefit from this the most. While anyone who has very sensitive and inflamed skins should avoid or at least be very careful because you need to remove this with a washcloth and so this might irritate.

Packaging

The packaging is a clear white bottle with a pump and a clear cap.

Colour, Texture & Scent

The formulation has a slight floral fruity scent, it’s not offensive and it smells like it could be naturally coming from the ingredients but it’s a mix of the ingredients and the fragrance component together.

As it’s an oil formulation, it goes on very easily and it has good slip when massaging on the skin. It feels lightweight and nourishing, when in contact with water, it turns into a very mild milky lather.

How to use it

Massage 1-2 pumps of the light-weight oil into dry skin and then add warm water. The oil will melt into a luxurious milky lather that cleanses the skin. Simply rinse off to reveal a clear and nourished complexion.

Elemis instruction

I use this as part of my double cleanse routine in the evening. I apply to dry skin using 2 – 3 pumps (I find 1 pump isn’t enough for the whole face including eyes area) and then remove with a warm washcloth. For me, I find it doesn’t emulsify enough to be able to rinse off without residues, whereas removing it with washcloth gets the job done properly and quickly. It leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. I then follow up with another cleanser.

Final thoughts

This is a good product for most skin types. It is very nourishing and is great for removing makeup on a regular basis, it hasn’t caused any irritations when removing eye makeup. Overall, it’s an easy-to-use product with a nice working pump. It performs well to its claims but you do need to remove it with a warm washcloth instead of relying on the lather which isn’t very much to work with. Skin feels cleansed and nourished afterwards.
